Road sign sizes

A road sign does not have one size, it has several: the ministère prescribes one per sign and per road class. The same stop sign is not the same size in a private parking lot, on a village street and on a numbered highway. Here is how we go about it, and what we ask you to check.

What the configurator sets

When you open a sign from our catalogue, it arrives at the common size for its family:

Family Size set
Warning, Regulatory, Information 600 × 600 mm (23.6 × 23.6 in.)
Work zone 750 × 750 mm (29.5 × 29.5 in.)
Tab signs 600 × 300 mm (23.6 × 11.8 in.)

These are the sizes you see most often on municipal roads and forest roads. They do not replace the spec sheet for your sign.

How to find the right size for YOUR sign

Tome V — Signalisation routière, published by Les Publications du Québec, gives the exact size, sign by sign, road class by road class.

See where the ministère publishes the spec sheets, and how to use them

The ministère also publishes the Répertoire des dispositifs de signalisation routière, where every sign has its technical spec sheet as a PDF, with the sizes allowed and the retroreflective sheeting prescribed.

The simplest route: find your sign in the Répertoire by its code (P-010 for the stop sign, for instance), note the size on the spec sheet, and enter it in the configurator under Custom size. If you write us the sign code and the road class, we will look it up for you.

What we can say, and what we will never say

We print your signs from the vector files of the ministère's spec sheets, at the size you choose. What we can state is that the size matches the one in the Répertoire when you pick the size from the spec sheet.

We will never write that a sign that left our shop is MTQ compliant, homologated or certified.

Read why, and what stays on your side

A sign installed on a public road puts its road authority on the hook: the sheeting class, the substrate, the mounting height and the placement are all part of getting it right, and those choices are yours. What we give you is a well-made piece, at the right size, in the material you asked for.

Retroreflective sheeting

Each sign's spec sheet prescribes a sheeting class — yellow, type I, for example. The configurator shows it to you so you know what the ministère asks for on that particular sign.

We print on reflective vinyl. If your project calls for a specific series (Engineer Grade, High Intensity Prismatic, Diamond Grade), tell us before you order: the price changes completely from one series to the next, and we do not want to hand you something other than what you were expecting.

The sign, not just the decal

You can take the print on its own, to apply to your own panel, or the piece already mounted on 1/8 in. (3 mm) composite aluminum — cut to size, deburred and drilled, ready to bolt to the post. That is the option most municipalities and contractors take.

Turnaround

Road signage takes 10 business days from the moment you approve your proof. That is not slowness: it is the real time it takes to bring in the right sheeting and build the piece properly. If you are in a hurry, write to us — we will tell you straight whether it is doable.

A sign that is not in the catalogue

We have all 534 signs from the Répertoire. If yours is not there — a municipal sign, a private-road pictogram, a bilingual sign — ask for a quote. We make single units, with no 25-piece minimum.
